Integrated Tree Pest Control & Management

Integrated Tree Pest Management is the practice of monitoring insect and disease activity, and once a threshold level has been reached, implementing a combination of methods and maintenance tools to restore tree and plant health on your property.

Horticultural Oils

Horticultural oils are lightweight oils, either petroleum or vegetable based. Today’s highly refined oils are valuable tools in managing insect and mite pests on common household plantings, such as roses, flowering shrubs, fruit trees, berries, ornamentals and houseplants. Many horticultural oils can also treat diseases such as powdery mildew.

At Emerald, we care about the safety of your family and landscapes. Our oils leave non-toxic residue, so they are safe around children, pets and wildlife. For clients who enjoy harvesting their own honey through bee keeping, horticultural oils won’t harm honey bees unless they are applied directly to flowers during the time of day that bees are foraging.

Insecticidal Soaps

Along with Horticultural oils, insecticidal soap are safe, effective and serve as a low toxicity alternative to pesticides when treating undesirable insects in your garden. These soaps leave no hard residue, are natural products that are non-toxic to animals and birds, and can be used on vegetables up to the time of harvesting. Additionally, beneficial insects, such as pollinators, are not harmed by soap sprays. These products also serve as a leaf wash to remove sooty mold, honeydew and other debris from trees, shrubs and other plantings safely.

Beneficial Nematodes

Beneficial nematodes are becoming a popular treatment for tree pest control. Nematodes are microscopic ‘worms’ that attack certain pests such as grubs in our gardens and landscapes. These organisms feed on over 200 pests from up to 100 insect families.

Nematodes feed on pests that harm plantings, or they feed on immature grubs prior to maturation. An expert can easily apply beneficial nematodes to your property, as they know the proper timing and conditions needed for this treatment to be most effective.

They are easily applied, but the right timing and conditions are needed for them to be effective.

Do I have to be home when you do the work?

In many cases, you do not have to be home when our team is scheduled to complete a job. If you prefer to be home, our team will do our very best to accommodate your request.

Can you provide images of the trees to be trimmed, treated, and maintained?

Yes, we use advanced software that keeps an inventory of our client’s properties. Our Plant Health Care clients receive access to thorough, easy-to-read maps that include a tree inventory, a history of treatments and services, as well as detailed cost breakdowns.

Are the products used for plant health care or pest control hazardous to my children and pets?

At Emerald, we protect the health of your family and landscaping with our conventional and environmentally safe insect control treatments. Additionally, our crews undergo training to ensure we are applying treatments using the most up to date industry standards.

Will heavy equipment be brought onto my property?

With your permission, we may need to bring our equipment onto your lawn to treat or remove trees. If this is the case, we use weight displacement mats that do not compact soil, leaving no evidence that our trucks were on your lawn.

Will you remove debris from the job?

Yes. At Emerald, cleanup is an important component of safety and tree care. Please discuss any questions or concerns with your Arborist Representative prior to beginning work.

Will I need to obtain a permit prior to work being done?

Depending on the area, you may need to obtain a permit. Permits vary from area to area, so please check with your Arborist Representative.

Will you (Emerald) get a permit for me?

Typically, it is the responsibility of the property owner to obtain necessary permits before a job begins. Our experts can advise you on the permits you need.

Can I see the product labels for products you use?

Yes. We provide access to copies of all our product labels. If you have any questions about the products we use, please call us at (914) 350-2224.
